How Can We Create the Best Work Environments in 2022?

The way in which work is conducted has changed drastically throughout the past two years, and there’s no doubt that things will continue to evolve in the new year. While it’s impossible to predict the future, it’s important to stay on top of trends and best practices. Since designing beautiful and efficient office spaces is our passion, we’re reflecting on key components of the modern work environments for 2022 and beyond.

Remain Flexible and Stay Innovative.

You’ve heard it countless times since March of 2020, but it’s crucial to stay flexible and adapt when necessary. We’ve seen new office trends come to life during the pandemic, including Zoom Rooms, hotdesking, videoconference pods, and other enhancements that make modern work easier.

Take note of what your office space is missing – or even ask what changes employees would like to see. What could your team benefit from? Do you need more storage? A better place to collaborate? Do people often need extra privacy while hosting virtual meetings? The list could go on. The best innovations come during times of need, so don’t be discouraged by troubling or uncertain situations. Remain flexible, listen to your employee’s desires, and work with a highly-skilled office design company to make your dreams a reality.

Accommodate for Differing Work Preferences.

Every employee has different work preferences, especially after leaving their WFH setups, meaning you should consider offering unique office solutions (think height-adjustable desks, lounge seating, and so on). Now more than ever, it’s crucial for employers to accommodate to these desires, because The Great Resignation has proven that employees will make a career change if they don’t feel valued.

Many offices are ditching traditional cubical environments and utilizing hot-desking, which gives individuals the option to choose their own desk because there are no assigned arrangements. This freedom often leads to increased productivity, as employees are able to select a space that works best for their daily tasks or general preferences (such as light or proximity to the coffee machine). Offices can also utilize lounge areas that provide extra-comfortable options for quick meetings or breaks. These casual spaces, outfitted with homey furniture, can help ensure your organization is catering to various work styles and preferences.

Accommodate for All Team Members (regardless of their in-office attendance schedule).

While a large number of organizations have returned to the office, many employees still enjoy utilizing hybrid approaches. This means effective designs must consider team members who don’t come into the office every day. In a recent blog post, we discussed You+ by OFS which creates opportunities to empower every employee to be their best self at work. Make sure to have a communal space where both fully in-person and hybrid employees can reunite, collaborate, and most importantly – feel at home.
